Mama's Boy: A Layout for Bird is the Word "Sweet" Challenge

Here is my entry for the Bird Is The Word "Sweet" Challenge:

I just love these photos of me and my sweet Mama's Boy together on the steps to my craft studio.

I "popped up" scrap strips of paper from the collection, and trimmed individual font stickers in random lengths.
This paper collection by My Mind's Eye Sunny Day, is a sweet collection about summer fun, and frames the photos of me and sweet bug just perfectly!
Title is in Me and My Big Ideas foil font chipboard stickers
Tiny journaling is in October afternoon font stickers

Fly over to Bird is The Word and join a challenge!

Enjoy!

And I present my very cheery, very patterned layout that is all about me!

Here is the lineup for this blog hop - and you are visiting my blog, #7!

Shelley is offering BLOG CANDY, too!

I am very, very fond of distressing photo edges and paper edges, too!

I like to use font stickers often, too, as my handwriting is unpredictable - and I like to trim them to different sizes!

This blog hop was a true challenge for me, as I lately dislike having my photo taken!

I used these products to create this layout:

Not A Cloud In The Sky

I created this layout of my happy boy with the sketch from Sketches in Thyme current challenge in mind!  I loved the simplicity of this sketch, which gave me a place to start, and some room for creative freedom!

the life: simple

I created this layout to feature one of the most important sons in my life, and the most important earthly man, my husband of 11+ years!  In these photos we are in Puerto Rico on vacation, just enjoying God's magnificent creation, and one of our favorites, the ocean!

Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him. - Psalm 127:3  is truly one of my favorite Bible verses, because I have all sons, and none of them are fruit of my womb, so they are much more of a gift to me.
I designed this layout with Scrapping Everyday Miracles challenge #20 Let's Hear It For The Boys in mind!  The challenge was to feature the men/boys in your life, and the scrap twist was to use photos of at least 2 shapes!  This is right up my alley, as I love to use my punches for circle photos!

For this layout, I used the Simple Stories Year-O-Graphy collection, Bazzill cardstock, Fiskars large circle punch, CTMH small circle punch, font stickers from October Afternoon and Adorn It, and Basic Grey brads.

What I Love At The Sea

I created this layout for these creative blog challenges:

I used LOTS of old plain flowers, and layered them, securing them with staples!  I was happy to use up some of these flowers from my stash!

**I used metal colored staples, and metal paperclips.**
I frequently forget about using my stapler, although I love the result every time I do!  I also have had these paperclips for years,. and am so excited about using them!!!

What a unique challenge!  I used a tiny square punch and lots of my favorite scraps of paper and created my mini patchwork!  I will certainly use this technique again!

I used these supplies, tools and products in my layout:

Simple Stories Year-O-Graphy paper collection
Fiskars tiny square punch
Prima flowers
Recollections flowers
Close To My Heart paperclips
Jenny Bowlin font stickers
American Crafts thickers
 Making Memories staples
Jenny Bowlin font stickers
Bazzill cardstock

This layout, and this photo, reflects one of my major personality traits - curiosity - especially about nature and even moreso about animals! One of my favorite activities when we go to any body of water is to search for animal life! And this layout reflects some of my favorite elements to use when I scrap - FLOWERS, pink, polka dots, layers and distressing!  What do you like about nature?

My Boy

I got really inspired one evening last week around midnight, and made my way to my studio!  I got out 1 Smooch Spritz ink in a frosted red color, and I made 2 more colors from CTMH ink refills in orange and sunkiss yellow.  I then placed stickers from Bo Bunny Press (very old), and Kelly Panacci (Pretty old, too) on my white cardstock as masks, and began to spritz the 3 inks all over the page.  I let my paper dry overnight, and peeled off the sticker-masks!  VOILA!  I then outlined the title with a coordinating marker from CTMH.  I distressed my photo, as usual, and framed it with strips of scrap paper from Me and My Big Ideas, Recollections, atd-Momenta, and CTMH.  I added a few brads and metal arrows, a sentence of journaling, and I was done!

I used these products:
Recollections:  blue cardstock, green gingham and yellow gingham patterned papers
Close to My Heart:  white cardstock, Orange reinker, Sinkiss Yellow reinker, Orange marker, star patterned paper
atd Momenta:  Happy Wheels patterned paper

My Monet: A Layout for Pagemaps 6th Anniversary

My Monet

My little painter, creating his first finger painting in 2010.  He was just as excited to be able to touch the paints, and smell them, as he was to paint with them!
This layout is inspired by the Pagesmaps 6th Anniversary celebration sketch below:
And here is the link to the contest page:

For this layout I used the 2010 Little Boy paper collection from Echo Park, American Crafts vinyl thickers and ribbon, Marvy Uchida Brush markers to color the tiny clothespins, Martha Stewart Star Punch All Over The Page to cut the star shapes from one of my son's art creations, Bazzill Classic Red cardstock, my sewing machine, Carolee Adorn It tiny font stickers, We R Memory Keepers Heart Attack distresser for the paper and photo edges, ek Success 3D-Dots, and last the Marvy Uchida Corner Punch.  I had a lot of fun with this sketch, these products and my youngest son's photos!

You Are A Hoot

I love patterned paper, and I'm not afraid to mix it up!  This layout features 5 patterned papers and a patterned ribbon.  I also pulled out one of my VERY favorite stamp sets, "You're A Hoot" from Close To My Heart. My background black polka dot paper is Fancy Pants Rough and Tough, the adorable owl patterned paper is Bella BLVD Finally Fall, the aqua polka dot paper, striped photo matte paper, and the aqua scrap on the top right are My Mind's Eye Lime Twist, the tiny journaling strip is a scrap from an older Close To My Heart line, as are the Colonial White cardstock squares I stamped those adorable owls on!  I distressed edges with the cute little We R Memory Keepers Heart Attack tool!  And of course, my thickers title, and 3 ribbon strips are from American Crafts. I attached the ribbon strips with my trusty Xyron 150 Sticker Maker, stamped with Close To My Heart black distressing ink, and popped up my hooty owls with ek 3D-Dots! Finally, I did a little coloring with a Close To My Heart color pencil in Robin Egg Blue, and added a few Basic Grey brads.  And the best part -  these hilarious shots of my adorable son!

u r : Simple Stories

I love this Happy Day collection from Simple Stories!  I'll admit, I used to think that using a bunch of products and elements from the same collection or even same manufacturer was not the way to go, but as I have gotten older, wiser and MORE BEHIND in my photos of my youngest son, I realize the error of my ways!  LOL!
I'd love your feedback, and for you to enter my 750 Followers Giveaway!

Get Up: Simple Stories

This is the first layout in a series I will be posting with my new favorite manufacturer: Simple Stories! These next few posts feature the Happy Day line, which suggests birthday, but I was able to use this versatile collection for a big photo shoot at our local park!  I also used Close To My Heart chocolate cardstock and twill ribbon, along with American Crafts thickers.  The chocolate ric rac is from Wal Mart, and the rough burlap-textured twine was purchased in a grab box at the 2011 Creating Keeepsakes convention.  Of course, I distressed as many edges as the skin on my fingers would stand! LOL!

So, So Big!

So, So Big!   I am famous for taking 50-75 photos of my son, when probably a handful would suffice, but I feel like I never know what I might get in the photos if I take a bunch!  Subtle differences, tiny movements, a nuance of an expression.....precious are those photo frames!  I am also famous for not measuring anything on my layouts, and being more of an "eyeballer" when placing elements!  So, there you have it!  Add in diagonal stripes on patterned paper, and here is what you get!  I didn't journal, but basically, Ezra is feeding himself completely without my help or hovering!

I often have receipts, mail, coupons, etc...that I place on our kitchen counter for my husband to take to work, or that I need to remember to take with me on errands on any given day. I detest clutter, and having these lying all around on my workspace was often confusing! I needed somewhere to put them, instead of the refrigerator door, as my hubby often didn't see them - so...my METAL project was born out of my need for practical organization and my love for crafting! I hope you can use this tutorial for your own personal magnetic reminder board, and I'll list some other uses at the end of my post!
So let's get started! First, you will need to locate a piece of galvanized sheet metal! These can be found at your local Sheet Metal Shop, or Heating and Cooling company! Check the Yellow Pages of your local phone directory if you don't already have a company you regularly use! **Just stop by and ask for a piece of scrap sheet metal cut to the size you need, in my case: almost 12 in x 12 in! (YOU WILL ALSO NEED 3-6 small pieces of scrap metal to m ake your decorative metal magnets! These should be 1-3 inches in size, either square or rectangle. Mine were just randomly cut at the metal shop from another scrap in the heap!) Mine are pictured a little further down with the re-purposed magnets I pried out of some old magnetic clips I had.
*They will likely just give it to you for free, or charge you a very minimal price! (My husband and I own a family heating and air, custom metal duct business, so my scrap was free!) And if you agree to mention the business on your blog or to those who see your project, they may give it to you for free as well! :) You will also need a 12in x 12in square picture frame; I had a white, wood frame on hand which coordinated with my kitchen trim.
Tools & Supplies you will need:
Self-Healing mat, 12 in paper trimmer, scissors, Xacto knife, metal/acrylic cutting ruler, sanding block, and corner rounder. Pictured are the various adhesives I used: ATG Tape Runner, Tombow Permanant, Xyron 150 Sticker Maker and CTMH Liquid Glass.

You will also need several (3-6) small scraps of metal to make your magnets, and the same number of STRONG magnet pieces!

**The thin magnetic sheets, strips and coils are not strong enough to hold through several sheets of paper and cardstock! (I repurposed several strong, round magnets out of some old magnetic clips I had.)
You will also need Mod Podge, a craft sponge, and a rubber brayer to adhere the first layer of cardstock to the sheet of metal.

Here is photo collage of the embellishments I used on my project, and the Prima Valentine stem I also used 1 piece of solid 12in x 12in cardstock, and portions of 3 coordinating patterned papers. Now we can start constructing our Magnet Reminder Board! 1. Adhere base cardstock to clean sheet metal with a thick layer of Mod Podge using a sponge. Apply Mod Podge in sections, and smooth each section with your Speedball rubber brayer or similar tool.

2. Place the sheet metal face down between to flat, firm surfaces, and place a weighted object on top of your "metal sandwich" to help keep the cardstock smooth. Set this aside to dry.
3. Now, position your Prima multi-flower stem onto your frame, and adhere is with generous strips of clear Liquid Glass adhesive. Hold in place for a few minutes, and set aside to dry.
4. Next, let's construct the small metal-based magnets you will need to hold items onto your board! **These also serve as part of the decoration/embellishment on your board without taking up space! Run your small metal pieces through a Xyron sticker maker 150 loaded with permanant adhesive.

Cover the sticky side of your metal pieces with paper of your choice, and then trim off the excess using your Xacto knife, self-healing mat, and firm craft ruler.

Next, adhere your strong magnets to the raw metal side of your magnets with clear Liquid Glass adhesive, and be generous! Mine oozed around the sides of the magnet a little. Set these aside to dry, as you will be embellishing these last. (This photo shows mine face down with embellishments.)

5. Now it's time to trim any excess cardstock from your now dry metal sheet with your Xacto knife, ruler and self-healing mat.

6. Next, trim your first, second and third patterned papers to the desired size and shape, and adhere them to the solid cardstock!
I used my ATG for larger areas on the backs of my papers, and then went around very close on all paper edges with my Tombow adhesive runner. I have better control with a smaller tape runner, personally.
Here is the beginning of your Magnetic Reminder Board! For one of my patterned papers, I wanted a distressed look, and to take out some of the brightness of the green of the paper, so I did some heavy sanding all over with my 3m sanding block.
This photo shows "before" I sanded. And here is the "after" effect! For the Bandana patterned piece, I used the corner rounder for some interest on 2 of the corners.
Next, I ran lengths of ribbon and ric rac through my Xyron sticker maker 150, and positioned those onto my sheet metal.
I also tied a length of white tulle around the frame and flower stem in an upside-down bow, and it needed no adhesive.
7. Last, flip over your dry magnets, and embellish as you desire! I used some Prima and Recollections paper flowers, and cut golden pom poms off of trim and edhered them with Liquid Glass adhesive. I also added a few of these onto the frame as if they were part of my flowered stem!
8. Last - place your new magnetic memory board into your frame, replace the backing, and you are all done! Voila!
*I think these would make great baby gifts if made in coordinating nursey colors for a new mom! She could place photos, keepsakes like hospital bracelets, etc...on her board to display temporarily, and then later scrapbook them! Appointment reminder cards are also great to display, too! This could also be a sesaonal/holiday decoration! Just decorate as many sheets of metal as you like, and switch them out in the frame as seasons and holidays change!
