Scrapping Everyday Miracles

Guest Designer Inspiration - Roberta Meyers-Edmisten
Hi everyone!  I created this layout, entitled "love" specifically for the June Main Challenge at Scrapping Everyday Miracles! The June Main Challenge:  Love Never Fails focuses on scrapping about a husband and wife relationship and the love you see/experience because of it.  The challenge topic was really quite special to me this month of June, as I began dating my husband, John, in this month, 17 years ago!  And the Scrap Twist was really quite tricky - only cardstock, NO Patterned Paper! Whew! So, I got busy and decided I would scrap about my husband, John and I.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 " Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."
This Bible verse keeps me focused in my marriage on what God designed marriage to be: an earthly example of His love for us.  Being married for 12+ years has come with many trials, much heartache at times, and yes, lots of joy.  My husband and I met 17 years ago, through his children..  Almost 5 years later, John and I married on a Blue Ridge Parkway overlook, on a blistering January day, in our ski coats, with my now son's Corey and Danny as witness and ring bearer.  That same year, my 14 year old Corey was tragically killed in a motorcross accident.  We separated for 13 months in the wake of our monumental grief. Miraculously, we reconciled, under the immense weight of God's grace and mercy, and grew in our relationship with each other and in our commitment to love as God commands.  In the years following, we faced years of infertility, our younger son's drug addiction, forced treatment, and eventual recovery,  my mental breakdown and ongoing treatment, and various other events common to life.  The saving grace of our marriage has always been the Lord, and our promise to never divorce just because it wasn't easy anymore.  The first 12 years of marriage, I think we have been able to "bear" and "endure" the trials that have come against us with hope and steadfast trust and that inspires me to keep loving as God instructs throughout His Word.  My prayer for our marriage is that we have many, many more years together, and that we can triumph through the coming trials while reflecting His Glory.
Now on to the Scrap Twist!  To create some patterns on the cardstock I chose, I used Quick Quotes Powder Puff Chalking Ink, bubble wrap, the negative shape of a Martha Stewart star punch, corrugated cardboard, a sheet of rubber alphabet stamps, and a single round sponge dauber!  It was actually quite fun, and I encourage you to give it a try for this challenge!  Hop on over to Scrapping Everyday Miracles!

You Are A Hoot

I love patterned paper, and I'm not afraid to mix it up!  This layout features 5 patterned papers and a patterned ribbon.  I also pulled out one of my VERY favorite stamp sets, "You're A Hoot" from Close To My Heart. My background black polka dot paper is Fancy Pants Rough and Tough, the adorable owl patterned paper is Bella BLVD Finally Fall, the aqua polka dot paper, striped photo matte paper, and the aqua scrap on the top right are My Mind's Eye Lime Twist, the tiny journaling strip is a scrap from an older Close To My Heart line, as are the Colonial White cardstock squares I stamped those adorable owls on!  I distressed edges with the cute little We R Memory Keepers Heart Attack tool!  And of course, my thickers title, and 3 ribbon strips are from American Crafts. I attached the ribbon strips with my trusty Xyron 150 Sticker Maker, stamped with Close To My Heart black distressing ink, and popped up my hooty owls with ek 3D-Dots! Finally, I did a little coloring with a Close To My Heart color pencil in Robin Egg Blue, and added a few Basic Grey brads.  And the best part -  these hilarious shots of my adorable son!

Here is the card I created to celebrate the wonderful night of our Savior's birth:
I used Close To My Heart cardstock, patterned paper, chipboard, twine, stamps, and ink. I also used products and tools from Martha Stewart, Fiskars, Marvy Uchida, Stickles, and Recollections.
To cover the white chipboard letters on the cover of my card, I first inked them, and later
layered 1 coat of silver Stickles with a fine paint brush. After drying overnight, I then painted on a layer of gold Stickles to tie in my gold and silver color scheme and add some depth.
I punched holes in one point of each star chipboard, in each letter, and next threaded waxy flax twine between them. I finished attaching the twine with a threaded sterling bead and a small knot. When I attached the stars and letters to the card, I wanted it to appear that these shiny stars were suspending the word "Starry" by golden threads, as if this came right down from the stars, right down from the Heavens.....
Inside my card, I continue the sentiment, which I wrote: "Starry Night...glorious night..." with lots of room left to pen a personal message to the recipient! Above that on the insie cover, is a stamped image of the Christ child and a paint embellished bright star, symbolizing the one that lead the 3 Kings to the stable where the newborn King could be found.

I then added gold glitter ribbon to extend the rich, celebratory theme of royalty throughout the card. I punched 1 side of the sentiment for added stars and detail.

This is a detail photo of the stamped image of baby Jesus lying in the manger, as found in the Close To My Heart stamp set: "Let Us Adore Him"

Now, Hippity Hop on over to Created 2 b Unique with Haidee to see her fabulous creation today! Don't forget to comment on my project & become a follower! :) Remember to come back tomorrow for my 2nd project that celebrates Christmas, and the most wonderful birthday since time began!

Sunshine In My Life

This layout has my NEW favorite background: A sheet of 12 x 12 FABRIC! This one I purchased at the chain craft store in town, and in case it is hard to tell, is the white/aqua polka dotted piece! Up close it has a lot of texture! The brand name is Recollections!
These FABRIC materials were chosen for the Creative Belli Challenge #123 Non-Paper! Check out their site: http://bellichallenge.blogspot.com
I chose my stamped image from Inkadinkado, and colored with Close To My Heart colored pencils. The SUMMER theme and stamped image are for the Stamp Something challenge: Dog Days of Summer Somethings 8-12-11 Challenge. You can find their site here: http://stampchallenges.blogspot.com
Don't you just love circles on water and pool layouts? I do! It just speaks water droplets to me! I chose all of the circle paper die cuts, button embellishments, polka dots, and other die cuts for the Totally Gorjuss Challenge #93 Round and Round. You can find their site here: http://www.totallygorjuss.blogspot.com

H2O is Joy!

I am so happy to be posting my latest layout! Having the follower contest as my only main post in almost a month was tough, but I wanted to make it easy to find! :) This layout showcases one of my very favorite photos of my youngest son, Ezra! I could scrap this photo over and over in mayn different ways! Do you have a photo like that? (This could be my idea for my first challenge......hhmmm.) So here it is:

I used Me and My Big Ideas Sunny Days patterned paper, American Crafts Heat Wave patterned paper (polka dots), Momenta atd Vibrant solid embossed cardstock (pink), Best Occasions Shiny Paper (turquoise), Bazzill Basics Cardstock Bank Roll, Peachy Keen Stamp You are My Sunshine, Close To My Heart ink Orange, American Crats thickers Heart, Recollections glitter and foam dots, Zots, Martha Stewart Glitter Glue, and buttons/brads/ribbon/thread from my stash! Hope you like it! Please leave a comment!

Ok, I have to give a shout out to Close To My Heart for their ink pads! I used Orange to stamp this cute little sun, and I have had this original ink pad since 2007, and I have never had to open my re-inker! You can visit their site here! www.closetomyheart.com

This is the first time I have scissor-distressed Bazzill cardstock, which doesn't have the white core I am used to, but I was pleased with the subtle lightening effect! And, being that I have 4 boys and only 1 daughter-in-law, I took advantage of the pink in this background paper, and put pink in as much of this layout as visually pleasing! :) (:

I have really enjoyed the collection of glitter I purchased with a coupon (Recollections)! And this is the first time I have used my new Peachy Keen Stamps! I do love those sweet little smiles, and the image was very crisp when I stamped it! I'll be purchasing more of these! You can visit their site: www.peachykeenstamps.com

I typed the journaling on my desktop, trying my best to match the turquoise in the papers with my font. And I was able to use my trusty Singer sewing machine to stitch a double frame around it in white for some focus, but hopefully without overpowering it. White brads, I added for the same reason. I hope you like my style, and I love comments!
