Let's Get Sketchy November Wk 5 Scrap Lift Challenge

The current challenge at Let's Get Sketchy celebrates that November has 5 weeks this year, and celebrates the previous work of their talented team members!

The challenge instructs  us to choose from the featured layouts and scraplift it with our own new layout!  Here is the layout that caught my eye:

http://letsgetsketchy.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2015-12-02T14:50:00-06:00&max-results=3

And here is my layout based on Sayaka's beautiful work!

I really liked that she included 3 photos that made a nice square focal point, and so I decided to use 4 square photos!
I mimicked her soft, layered background papers, and adhered my embellishments in similar locations!

Check out the Let's Get Sketchy blog for great inspiration and challenges!

Make Your Mark: A Layout for Sketches in Thyme #110

We start training in creativity and color theory early around here!  These pics show my youngest using his first set of markers.

Using Sketch #110 from Sketches in Thyme, this layout was easy-breezy!  Here is the original sketch I worked from:
I was pretty challenged by the amount of white space in this sketch, and I really held back with my patterned paper habit! I got to use some fun paper scraps from Echo Park Little Boy, Close To My Heart, Bazzill Basics cardstock, Basic Grey brads, and a Fiskars punch!
Happy Scrapping!

What I Love At The Sea

I created this layout for these creative blog challenges:

I used LOTS of old plain flowers, and layered them, securing them with staples!  I was happy to use up some of these flowers from my stash!

**I used metal colored staples, and metal paperclips.**
I frequently forget about using my stapler, although I love the result every time I do!  I also have had these paperclips for years,. and am so excited about using them!!!

What a unique challenge!  I used a tiny square punch and lots of my favorite scraps of paper and created my mini patchwork!  I will certainly use this technique again!

I used these supplies, tools and products in my layout:

Simple Stories Year-O-Graphy paper collection
Fiskars tiny square punch
Prima flowers
Recollections flowers
Close To My Heart paperclips
Jenny Bowlin font stickers
American Crafts thickers
 Making Memories staples
Jenny Bowlin font stickers
Bazzill cardstock

This layout, and this photo, reflects one of my major personality traits - curiosity - especially about nature and even moreso about animals! One of my favorite activities when we go to any body of water is to search for animal life! And this layout reflects some of my favorite elements to use when I scrap - FLOWERS, pink, polka dots, layers and distressing!  What do you like about nature?

You Are A Hoot

I love patterned paper, and I'm not afraid to mix it up!  This layout features 5 patterned papers and a patterned ribbon.  I also pulled out one of my VERY favorite stamp sets, "You're A Hoot" from Close To My Heart. My background black polka dot paper is Fancy Pants Rough and Tough, the adorable owl patterned paper is Bella BLVD Finally Fall, the aqua polka dot paper, striped photo matte paper, and the aqua scrap on the top right are My Mind's Eye Lime Twist, the tiny journaling strip is a scrap from an older Close To My Heart line, as are the Colonial White cardstock squares I stamped those adorable owls on!  I distressed edges with the cute little We R Memory Keepers Heart Attack tool!  And of course, my thickers title, and 3 ribbon strips are from American Crafts. I attached the ribbon strips with my trusty Xyron 150 Sticker Maker, stamped with Close To My Heart black distressing ink, and popped up my hooty owls with ek 3D-Dots! Finally, I did a little coloring with a Close To My Heart color pencil in Robin Egg Blue, and added a few Basic Grey brads.  And the best part -  these hilarious shots of my adorable son!

luv u

For this layout, I used the February Sketch from My Scraps and More as my blueprint! It was right up my alley, becuase I love geometric shapes! I also based my layout on the Allsorts Challenge One or More Hearts, because I am absolutely in love with my youngest son! I was thrilled to use several items from my stash that are so old, that I have forgotten who manufactured them! ("luv" in the turquoise chipboard is that example! Those have to be at least 6 years old?) Also, the trio of ribbon slides in the top left corner are from my days as a Close To My Heart consultant, several years ago! I am entering this layout into these challenges: Allsorts Challenge: One or More Hearts Craft Us Crazy Challenge #20: Anything Goes My Scraps and More February Sketch I used products by these manufacturers on my layout: Prima, Offray, My Little Shoebox, Me and My Big Ideas, Close To My Heart, Bazzill

Life is a Journey...

I love this layout because I rarely make it into any photographs or any of my layouts! I have been on a long journey as a person living with and trying to thrive with depression. In these photos from fall of 2010, I had been battling for over 5 years. I am in what I like to call "remission," right now, and am so thankful the journey has some new, more joyful scenery.
Also, this layout represents our journey of love through adoption, and is symbolized with the various colors and patterns of hearts on my layout. I like to say that my youngest son was was, "born in my heart."
I am entering this layout into these challenges:
I used these products on my layout:
Close To My Heart black font stickers and brads, EK Success Balck font stickers, toile, My Mind's Eye Stella and Rose, and Bazzill basics cardstock.

Family

Hearts joined together by love = family!
I used my handy heary punch to accent some of my favorite photos from my youngest son's first fall festival! I then accented those with brads and stickers. I also distressed almost every element on this layout with black distressing ink, and on the photos I used my favorite tool - my industrial grit sanding block from the hardware store! I have entered this layout into these challenges:
I used these products on my layout: My Mind's Eye Stella and Rose, Tim Holtz Distress Ink, Bazzill cardstock, Close To My Heart brads, and toile.

100% Fall Fun

Oh I am so behind on scrapbooking my 3 year old son's photos! I know it is not the Autumn season, but Fall of 2010 is where I am chronologically in my photos! My goal for 2012 is to get caught up with current events, and stay caught up!
For this layout, I used lots of CHECKS/Squares! In the top right photo of my son, he is inside a bouncy house, behind a square-checked safety net. The pinwheel I created has a gingham checked patterned paper from Simple Stories. Look over to the right of my pinwheel and I have accented with 2 strips of American Crafts checked ribbon. I also found some super-tiny checkered ribbon in aqua by AC, and accented the left side of the page. My title card also has a grid pattern. And for my last gingham touch, I had one jumbo acrylic brad in aqua left in my stash that was just perfect! I am entering this layout into these 2 challenges:
I used these products for this layout: Simple Stories 100 Days of Summer, American Crafts ribbon, Bazzill Basics textured cardstock "cinder," EK Success black font stickers, Close To My Heart brads, and Making Memories Noteworthy journaling sheet.

Good Times

Welcome to my layout for the Fabulous Friday Challenge at Frosted Designs, featuring "Embossing." I chose to incorporate dry embossing on the red cardstock die cut shape behind the "E," as well as wet, heat embossing on the title and horseshoe accents! I really do like both types of embossing for different reasons: dry embossing is more subtle, and heat embossing adds pop!
So, I encourage you to get out those embossing plates and stylus, heat guns and fine powders, and get creative! (And messy, if you are like me! :)
Please join us each and every Fabulous Friday at Frosted Designs!

Frosted Designs Fabulous Friday Challenge 10-14-11 Fancy Trim

The Fabulous Friday challenge this week is to use "fancy trim" on your project! As a professed scrapbooker, and a mother of 3 boys, I seldom have an opportunity to use a feminine fancy trim! So, I was extremely excited to find this faux leather fringe at the Buy The Yards Ribbons booth at the CKC-Charlotte convention vendor fiar! I snapped up all she had in her booth, knowing I would be workin on all of our cowboy/indian photos from Tweetise Railroad!
I used 2 strips of this trim, and adhered it to my layout with Zips Clear Adhesive Lines Ultra Thin. I think it turned out great! I hope you like it, and will give some of those masculine trims a try when you come across them!
Keep an eye out each Friday for a new challenge at Frosted Designs!

Frosted Designs Fabulous Friday Challenge 9-30-11 Fussy Cuts

I guess everyone can tell by the layouts on my blog, that I really love to photograph and then scrapbook my son, Ezra! And much of what he wears, and what we do involves bright colors! So here we are at our local amusement park, Tweetsie Railroad, on one of my favorite rides: The Merry Go Round! I am really not sure the difference between a carousel and merry go round, but we sure do love them!

As a very thankful member of the Frosted Designs Fabulous Friday Design Team, I was challenged to do fussy cutting! For this layout, I cut out the 5 clouds from a piece of My Mind's Eye Lime Twist Out of The Blue "Smile" Float Paper, and the 2 carousel horses from a piece of Best Creations, Inc. Looops and Scoops paper. Boy, those carousel horses were very fussy!!! LOL!

I added Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Ink Faded Jeans with a stiff bristle brush to the top edges of the clouds, and adhered them with foam circles! For the horses, I also adhered those with foam, and for a "Twist" of fun, I used Lime Twist baker's twine, 2 strands twisted, for the poles of the carousel! I hope you like it!

My best tip for fussy cutting -- use a pair of sharp, fine or microtip scissors! It will save you time and frustration! Keep an eye out for a new challenge each Friday at Frosted Designs!

Frosted Designs Fabulous Friday Challenge 9-16-11: Punches

Welcome to my entry for the Frosted Designs Fabulous Friday Challenge 9-16-11: Punches

As you may have noticed, I am very partial to creating layouts, and I am partial to my youngest son as my focus. So, I was thrilled when I got to create layouts using punches, because I had just begun to sort and crop all of the photos from our first trip to Tweetsie Railroad. And.....I recently purchased a Martha Stewart Border punch in choo choo train for a steal at a big box chain craft store! SO.....all this to say I was excited to get started on these layouts!

The photo above shows a secrtion of the choo choo border punch in a teal cardstock, inked with Distressing ink, and adhered to a black backgroud.
On the top layout, I cut a 12 in. strip of teal paper, and punched continuously, end to end. I left the remaining section of cardstock that resulted from the punched strip. I then applied this as a bottom border for my layout.
This project was created using the Sarsparilla Paper Pack , and coordinating Stickease stickers from Close To My Heart, our sponsor!
_____________
The layout below also incorporated the same punch, but I chose to punch the entire width of the top of my 12 x 12 in. cardstock base, and create only a decorative top edge, rather than a border strip or a decorative edge on all 4 sides of my background cardstock!

I hope you'll try out some of those punches you have already, or branch out and purchase a new one you have been wanting to try, but haven't! We love to see your creations ar Frosted Designs!

I completed a second layout about all the fun we have at Thanksgiving in Nana's pool! This layout is based on Frosted Designs Sketch #21: I had a lot of fun with this sketch, and got a little carried away with all of my patterned papers! LOL! I used products from Echo Park, DCWV, Close To My Heart, Sassafras, American Crafts, and Cricut Life is a Beach! **Please become a follower and enter my 400 Follower Contest, and my August Challenge! I Love Water

I just completed this layout for Sketchy Thursdays 8.11! This was a great layout to work with, and I may use it again! We love to visit Nana at Thanksgiving each year, and one of our favorite things to do is swim! For this layout I used products from Close To My Heart, Fancy Pants, and My Mind's Eye! For the waves, I used Cricut cart: Life is a Beach.
