Ribbon Scrap Cardstock Tutorial

This is my pile of ribbon scraps! I love ribbon, and my absolute favorite pattern is polka dots! For your first step, select coordinating ribbon scraps, about 10-12, in varying lengths!
You will need 1 sheet of black cardstock, scissors, a hair straightener, adhesive, tape, and a sewing machine ready to sew! (I chose black cardstock because it highlighted the bright colors in my ribbon scraps.) I spread out my scraps of ribbon, and trimmed their ends on a 45 degree angle. I then ran any creased or wrinkled scraps through my heated hair straightener.
Next, use permanent adhesive, and arrange and stick down your scraps. I alternated long and short pieces, and directions of the angles I cut earlier. I allowed my scraps to hang off the bottom of my page, as in a later step I will be trimming these edges.
Next I stitched each scrap of ribbon straight down the center, using the polka dots as an aid!
I trimmed threads close, and taped down the free ends on the back of the black cardstock.
Finally, I used my sharpest scissors to trim the overhanging edges of the ribbon from the bottom edge of the cardstock. Voila! You have created a scrap ribbon sheet you can use for scrapbooking, cardmaking and more!
Here is a final close-up of my stitched ribbon scrap cardstock project. I hope it will inspire you to use your ribbon scraps in new ways!

Glitter, Glitter Everywhere!

I love glitter, and I know many of you do too! I created this layout for a Fabulous Friday Design Team project several weeks ago, and wanted to share it with you! *Leave a comment with a link to your blog post of any project using glitter, and I'll draw a winner the 3rd week of February for a prize!
I applied dark cocoa glitter around the edges of each photo with Martha Stewart glitter glue. I next chose random polka dots on my patterned paper and applied dark cocoa, carnation pink, bubble gum pink, and fuschia glitter.
I also chose glitter thickers from American Crafts for part of my title, and added more fuschia glitter to the surface of the word, "rose." Next, I wove glitter tape through the lower edge of the pink fiber underneath my photos. Finally, I added 2 glitter covered dots, in dark cocoa, over the 2 letter "o"s I printed from my desktop!
So, there you have it---glitter, glitter, everywhere! I had a lot of fun with this layout, and I was happy to get to use some pink, as I have all boys!

Frosted Designs Fabulous Friday Challenge 9-16-11: Punches

Welcome to my entry for the Frosted Designs Fabulous Friday Challenge 9-16-11: Punches

As you may have noticed, I am very partial to creating layouts, and I am partial to my youngest son as my focus. So, I was thrilled when I got to create layouts using punches, because I had just begun to sort and crop all of the photos from our first trip to Tweetsie Railroad. And.....I recently purchased a Martha Stewart Border punch in choo choo train for a steal at a big box chain craft store! SO.....all this to say I was excited to get started on these layouts!

The photo above shows a secrtion of the choo choo border punch in a teal cardstock, inked with Distressing ink, and adhered to a black backgroud.
On the top layout, I cut a 12 in. strip of teal paper, and punched continuously, end to end. I left the remaining section of cardstock that resulted from the punched strip. I then applied this as a bottom border for my layout.
This project was created using the Sarsparilla Paper Pack , and coordinating Stickease stickers from Close To My Heart, our sponsor!
_____________
The layout below also incorporated the same punch, but I chose to punch the entire width of the top of my 12 x 12 in. cardstock base, and create only a decorative top edge, rather than a border strip or a decorative edge on all 4 sides of my background cardstock!

I hope you'll try out some of those punches you have already, or branch out and purchase a new one you have been wanting to try, but haven't! We love to see your creations ar Frosted Designs!

Frosted Designs Fabulous Friday Challenge 9-2-11: Flourishes

Welcome Frosted Designs Fabulous Friday Challenge Seekers!

This is my first project as a design team member for Frosted Designs Fabulous Friday team! The challenge this Friday is to create a project using "flourishes." I chose to try out some positive and negative images of flourishes I cut with my Cricut.

I cut these flourishes using the Cindy Loo cartridge, and lightly added Stickles in "Pumice Stone" to the pink flourishes!
If you are interested, I used s*e*i* Bright Blossoms patterned paper, Watermelon and black cardstocks from Close To My Heart, and Grey cardstock from Recollections. Chipboard front stickers are American Crafts thickers in Jewelry Box, Silver flowers are Boutique Fleur by Recollections, pink flowers are from Prima, and inked with Watermelon ink from CTMH,rose cluster flower is a Mulberry Paper Flower from Boutique Fleur by Recollections and also inked with Watermelon. Ribbon is "Beauty" by Satin Sensations Morex, and finally, the silver glitter gem is by Recollections.
**I can't wait to see what you create with flourishes for Frosted Designs Fabulous Friday!**
