Scrapbook Challenges Sketch 461

This week I worked with Sketch 461 from Scrapbook Challenges, and I have to say that I love it!  Because I have so many photos to scrap from my 3 boys and 1 daughter-in-law, I have had to make a promise to myself to use no less than 3 photos each page!  This sketch with 4 photos and everything placed so symmetrically was right up my alley!

Scrapbook Challenges FlashBack Friday #184

I'm finally back to scrapbooking and posting on the blog!   Woohoo!  It has been almost a FULL YEAR since I posted here on The Papercrafting League, and I am praising the Lord that He has brought me back!

I decided to jump right in with a sketch challenge at Scrapbook Challenges, and worked from Sketch #184 in the November-December Flashback Friday challenge!  Here is the updated sketch from SC, and below is my one page layout!
SBC_Sketch184

I always love a sketch that allows me to use 3 or more photos!

The journaling section included in the sketch forced me to come up with more details than just the date!   Thanks, Scrapbook Challenges!

I used American Crafts Junior collection papers, My Mind's Eye Lime Twist twine, Zots glue dots, Scenic Route Grafton Park chipboard, thickers vinyl alphabet stickers, and Queen & Co. washi tape.

bunny love: A Layout for Stuck?! Sketches

bunny love

I created this layout exclusively for this challenge!
Here is the original sketch from Stuck?! Sketches:

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIZD8vP8CT9m5MgFE1fqnuVtFk7ewz-vxWATCqR6WAg1OAPqB1iq5PV5ZJ4R85edSBh3SxIRlTG-YJP8eXKLOdfIVVNsNUeH1AjqVVWY4f0PtL7YWaLofgGh2evBmv3QYavrRYE0-TiYFV/s400/12+dec+1.jpg

I had loads of fun with this sketch, and knew I had to use this quirky photo of my son gingerly holding a bunny at the Apple Festival!  I pulled out lots of OLD supplies from my stash, including the printed mini tags, and that blue vellum tag, which is likely 10 years old!  Whew!  I made my "picture frame," from the negative spaces of a square punch, and used several buttons from my excessive collection.  Enjoy!

Scrapping Everyday Miracles

Guest Designer Inspiration - Roberta Meyers-Edmisten
Hi everyone!  I created this layout, entitled "love" specifically for the June Main Challenge at Scrapping Everyday Miracles! The June Main Challenge:  Love Never Fails focuses on scrapping about a husband and wife relationship and the love you see/experience because of it.  The challenge topic was really quite special to me this month of June, as I began dating my husband, John, in this month, 17 years ago!  And the Scrap Twist was really quite tricky - only cardstock, NO Patterned Paper! Whew! So, I got busy and decided I would scrap about my husband, John and I.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 " Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."
This Bible verse keeps me focused in my marriage on what God designed marriage to be: an earthly example of His love for us.  Being married for 12+ years has come with many trials, much heartache at times, and yes, lots of joy.  My husband and I met 17 years ago, through his children..  Almost 5 years later, John and I married on a Blue Ridge Parkway overlook, on a blistering January day, in our ski coats, with my now son's Corey and Danny as witness and ring bearer.  That same year, my 14 year old Corey was tragically killed in a motorcross accident.  We separated for 13 months in the wake of our monumental grief. Miraculously, we reconciled, under the immense weight of God's grace and mercy, and grew in our relationship with each other and in our commitment to love as God commands.  In the years following, we faced years of infertility, our younger son's drug addiction, forced treatment, and eventual recovery,  my mental breakdown and ongoing treatment, and various other events common to life.  The saving grace of our marriage has always been the Lord, and our promise to never divorce just because it wasn't easy anymore.  The first 12 years of marriage, I think we have been able to "bear" and "endure" the trials that have come against us with hope and steadfast trust and that inspires me to keep loving as God instructs throughout His Word.  My prayer for our marriage is that we have many, many more years together, and that we can triumph through the coming trials while reflecting His Glory.
Now on to the Scrap Twist!  To create some patterns on the cardstock I chose, I used Quick Quotes Powder Puff Chalking Ink, bubble wrap, the negative shape of a Martha Stewart star punch, corrugated cardboard, a sheet of rubber alphabet stamps, and a single round sponge dauber!  It was actually quite fun, and I encourage you to give it a try for this challenge!  Hop on over to Scrapping Everyday Miracles!

Sweet Day: A Layout for Creative Scrappers

Oh this was a sweet summer day in 2010, exploring our own back yard, and taking in all of God's beautiful creation.

In keeping with the very difficult pledge I made for 2013, I used paper, stickers, and journaling notes from the 2010 My Mind's Eye Quite Contrary, Mary Mary collection!  Check out Creative Scrappers for some great inspiration!

Here is the original sketch I worked from:
I took full advantage of the opportunity to use pinks and light greens in this layout, which is a real treat, as I have all boys I also love to use my scraps of designer paper, and this sketch allowed that, too!  AWESOME!

yuck!: A Layout for My Mind's Eye Sketch Challenge for April

This is my layout for the April Sketch Challenge at My Mind's Eye!

Here is the original sketch I worked from:

I loved working with this sketch because I was able to use SO MANY patterned papers in 4 collections of My Mind's Eye products!  I was also able to use several scraps from other projects.  I used My Mind's Eye Follow Your Heart: Be Amazing and My Mind's Eye Follow Your Heart: Be Happy  And probably my all time favorite collection, Lime Twist, can be found in lots of places on my layout.

In addition, I was inspired by the whimsical thread that Ronda added to the top of her photo, and I decided to try my hand at gluing baker's twine to my project from the Lime Twist and Follow Your Heart collections.  I was so pleased with how it turned out!

I used a Martha Stewart liquid glue pen to draw my design, and just tapped the twine down!

The largest banner of tiny print white polka dots on orange is from the 6 x 6 pad of the On the Bright Side: One collection, as are the small banner strips of brown sketched hearts and tiny floral print.

I used a white gel journaling pen from Marvy Uchida to tie in the white in my patterned papers, and in the graph lines of my background pattern.

I love buttons, and I used 2 of the decorative buttons from the Follow Your Heart accessories, and various others from my large button stash.  And last, my title is from American Crafts thickers!

Enjoy!

Oscar: A Layout for Sketches in Thyme

Here is the original sketch #104:

My goal for 2013 is to use the supplies and collections I already have, and only purchase adhesives and photo prints!  So, everything in my layout is from my stash!  I had big fun with this sketch, and chose to take 1 great photo of Oscar the mule and crop it into 6 equal parts!  I used fibers, twines, ribbon ends, and some old paper scraps!  It feels good to use what I have and to be a good steward of my blessings!

Candy Coated!

It is pretty rare that I just give my youngest child candy without him earning it, or it being a special holiday, but he received this blue-raspberry Blow Pop from my mom, his La La.  The condition to be be able to eat it, was that he had to eat it in the bathtub! I loved layering these patterned papers in shades of aqua and turquoise by My Mind's Eye, and using American Crafts thickers, as well as a Marvy Uchida heart punch!

4 Crafty Chicks Challenge #121: Make your own patterned paper

This week at 4 Crafty Chicks Challenge, the assignment was to make your own patterned paper and then create with it!  I'm a guest designer the month of December, and I really enjoyed this challenge!  I love to get messy!
Here is my completed piece of homemade patterned paper!  I used recycled/repurposed things to make my patterns, that otherwise would have been thrown away!

And here is the layout I created with my new paper!

Here is a look at the recycled materials I used to add the various textures and patterns to my cardstock.

And add a nice big squeeze of white acrylic paint to work with:

Dab that paint all over the bubble surface of the bubblewrap with a sponge.

Place that face down onto your darker cardstock anywhere you like - I chose an angled tilt and off-center.

Next, I sponged white paint all over the foam slats of this little protective cover that Asian Pears come wrapped in, and placed it face down on my cardstock, too!

Try to keep the various items you are placing on the cardstock still, without sliding them, as you will end up with a big white smudge rather than a print/pattern.
Here's how that came out.  You can turn the foam inside-out and you will have the other diorection of the weave pattern.

Next, I added in a shimmery blue acrylic paint to coordinate with my photo.
I sponged that all over one side of the plastic rings that I saved from my son's individual juice bottles (I don't normally buy these, but he was very sick, and he needed the fluids!)

I placed this face down on the paper and pressed firmly!

Next, I sponged the entire corrugated side of this little lightbulb box insert with a mixture of the blue and white paints, and reapeated my face-down press!

I used these products and tools to create this patterned paper & layout:
American Crafts Metropolitan City Park paper
Apple Barrel Acrylic Paint in white
Folkart acrylic paint in Metallic Blue Sapphire
Magic Scraps Felt Die Cut Shapes "All Boy"
Tim Holtz ideo-ology memo pins
Mon Ami Gabby Crepe Paper
XXL Glue Dots
Bazzill Basics Classic Blue & Handsome cardstock
Michaels ribbon
Adorn It font stickers
CTMH distressing ink in brown
thickers vinyl white letters
Old tags, one of which was from a sweater I recently purchased
foam cover from an Asian Pear
Corrugated cardboard insert from a lightbulb box
plastic separating rings from juice bottles for kids
bubblewrap
embroidery floss
