Sweet Day: A Layout for Creative Scrappers

Oh this was a sweet summer day in 2010, exploring our own back yard, and taking in all of God's beautiful creation.

In keeping with the very difficult pledge I made for 2013, I used paper, stickers, and journaling notes from the 2010 My Mind's Eye Quite Contrary, Mary Mary collection!  Check out Creative Scrappers for some great inspiration!

Here is the original sketch I worked from:
I took full advantage of the opportunity to use pinks and light greens in this layout, which is a real treat, as I have all boys I also love to use my scraps of designer paper, and this sketch allowed that, too!  AWESOME!

UPDATE - fam: A Layout for Sketches in Thyme #108

I'm so excited to have been chosen one of the TOP 3!
My take on the sketch provided is actually one of my more clean & simple layouts.

I enjoyed the challenge of this sketch, and the simplicity of the elements!  I wish all of my layouts came together this easily, used 3 photos, and supplies I had on hand!

Go Apps: A Layout for My Scraps and More # 25

Go Apps!  This is my Alma Mater, and the major school in our hometown!  Going to lots of home games has become a family tradition!

Here is the original sketch from My Scraps and More #25:

I loved using 3 photos and lots of paper strips and ribbon from my stash!  I also used pices of a partial leftover die-cut from Pink Paislee from another project!

Happy Day: A Layout for My Scraps and More #24

This was a Happy Day!  Buddies from 4 families came together to play while we celebrated one mom's birthday!

Here is the original sketch posted on My Scraps and More for #24:

I loved using 2 photos and so many strips of paper!  All the strips of paper were scraps I had trimmed off of other projects!  I love to use scraps!  I also used 2 acetate overlays in this layout, which are typically a challenge for me to incorporate!
The Happy Day title was actually an intact strip in the Simple Stories collection, but I cut each letter apart, and trimmed them down to fit better.
Enjoy!

My Boy

I got really inspired one evening last week around midnight, and made my way to my studio!  I got out 1 Smooch Spritz ink in a frosted red color, and I made 2 more colors from CTMH ink refills in orange and sunkiss yellow.  I then placed stickers from Bo Bunny Press (very old), and Kelly Panacci (Pretty old, too) on my white cardstock as masks, and began to spritz the 3 inks all over the page.  I let my paper dry overnight, and peeled off the sticker-masks!  VOILA!  I then outlined the title with a coordinating marker from CTMH.  I distressed my photo, as usual, and framed it with strips of scrap paper from Me and My Big Ideas, Recollections, atd-Momenta, and CTMH.  I added a few brads and metal arrows, a sentence of journaling, and I was done!

I used these products:
Recollections:  blue cardstock, green gingham and yellow gingham patterned papers
Close to My Heart:  white cardstock, Orange reinker, Sinkiss Yellow reinker, Orange marker, star patterned paper
atd Momenta:  Happy Wheels patterned paper
American Crafts:  orange metal arrows and brads

Ribbon Scrap Cardstock Tutorial

This is my pile of ribbon scraps! I love ribbon, and my absolute favorite pattern is polka dots! For your first step, select coordinating ribbon scraps, about 10-12, in varying lengths!
You will need 1 sheet of black cardstock, scissors, a hair straightener, adhesive, tape, and a sewing machine ready to sew! (I chose black cardstock because it highlighted the bright colors in my ribbon scraps.) I spread out my scraps of ribbon, and trimmed their ends on a 45 degree angle. I then ran any creased or wrinkled scraps through my heated hair straightener.
Next, use permanent adhesive, and arrange and stick down your scraps. I alternated long and short pieces, and directions of the angles I cut earlier. I allowed my scraps to hang off the bottom of my page, as in a later step I will be trimming these edges.
Next I stitched each scrap of ribbon straight down the center, using the polka dots as an aid!
I trimmed threads close, and taped down the free ends on the back of the black cardstock.
Finally, I used my sharpest scissors to trim the overhanging edges of the ribbon from the bottom edge of the cardstock. Voila! You have created a scrap ribbon sheet you can use for scrapbooking, cardmaking and more!
Here is a final close-up of my stitched ribbon scrap cardstock project. I hope it will inspire you to use your ribbon scraps in new ways!
